Workshop language: Turkish

By connecting the cyclic recurrence of the mythos of Echo and Narcissus with mutual sensing, listening, expressing and relationships between the inner and the outer, the self and the other, the workshop focuses on actualizing the mythos on a spatial and audial plane. The event is sustained by the transformation of inarticulation/inexistence in the case of a ban on words for the purpose of "healing" through the use of wordless forms of vocal expression and collective experience. The workshop thereby aims to recover Echo’s lost words through collectivity and experiencing the mediums of mutual listening and expressing, and to create a space of empathic experience for the contemporary human being by questioning the connections between resonance and reflection as well as self and other.

Workshop Coordinator: Oguz Oner

Oguz Oner

Oguz Oner, who pioneered mapping of spatial auditory perception and emotional response through soundwalks in Turkey, refers to himself as a “sound weaver” and works on auditory and psycho-geographic projects in the field of arts and design. His works are informed and inspired by the close bonds of sound with the city, nature, and human-space contact. Following his Ph.D. in soundscape from the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), he began conducting projects on the relationships between space, sound and perception. Oner also works as the arts coordinator at Koc University. For the last ten years, he has been performing as a solo artist as well as with the theatrical/indietronic/avant garde pop music band Nu Park, which he founded, and he has been working on music and sound design with electro-cellist Yaren Eren Budak both in Turkey and abroad.
